Maiya Bertrand, LCSW

Hi, I'm Maiya Bertrand, LCSW. Lic #136221

I provide virtual therapy for adults throughout California who are navigating grief and loss, caregiver burnout, serious illness adjustment, anxiety, and major life transitions. My goal is to create a supportive space where you can process difficult experiences, develop practical coping strategies, and move toward meaningful change.

Over the past five years, I've had the privilege of supporting individuals and families through some of life's most challenging and transformative experiences. My work has spanned a variety of roles, including providing therapy to children, teens, adults, and families, as well as guiding patients and their loved ones through serious illness, caregiving, grief, and the dying process as a palliative care social worker.

At first glance, that may seem like a broad range of experience. What ties it all together is the simple fact that grief takes many forms. Grief is not limited to the loss of a loved one. We grieve changes in our health, relationships, identities, careers, expectations, and stages of life. These transitions affect not only us, but often everyone around us.

I love being a palliative care social worker because I have the privilege to show up for people during some of the most difficult times in their lives. I am continually inspired by the resilience I see in people and the courage it takes to seek support during difficult seasons of life.

My Approach

I believe therapy is a process, and perhaps most importantly, I believe that the therapeutic relationship matters. as far as my therapeutic style, I will not stare blankly at you and ask, “so how does that make you feel?' We will work together to create therapeutic goals that feel authentic, attainable, and suited to your individual needs. Drawing from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), parts work, somatic therapy, radical acceptance, and strengths-based techniques, I tailor therapy to fit the person in front of me rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

Finding the right therapist can make all the difference, and I want you to know that I do not take that lightly. While I hope we are a good fit, my priority is helping you find the support that best meets your needs. If at any point it feels like another therapist or approach may be a better fit, I am committed to helping connect you with additional resources and providers whenever possible.

As we move through life, we continue to grow, change, and evolve, and so do our needs. My role is not to tell you where to go, but to walk alongside you as you navigate that journey, offering support, compassion, curiosity, and practical tools along the way.

Whether we're meeting virtually or walking side by side, we'll move at your pace.
